I live in a house with seven kids.  The eldest two are ages ten and (almost) nine.  When Yusuf was small I tried starting a notebook with him where we would write back and forth, but I guess he wasn’t really developmentally ready.  Here we are, a couple years later, and after reading this inspirational article, I decided to give it another try.

This time I am also sharing a journal with my niece.  Growing up can be tough and kids sometimes need adults other than their parents to confide in, which is why alhamdulilah I feel blessed to live close to family.

We got these (overpriced but oh so pretty) journals from Chapters and I’ve just been making small talk with them on the pages.  We also drew some pictures and designs.  I have to admit that I get just as excited to see that they wrote to me, as they do when they see I wrote to them.

InshaAllah I hope and pray this is a way to strengthen the bond and ease communication.
