Ibby’s Trip to Emerg

PhotoGrid_1451162863845We had a little bit of an incident with Ibby yesterday.  Alhamdulillah he is okay now but I felt like it was important I share what happened (to perhaps help anyone dealing with a similar situation in the future).  He developed a cough last week (tis the season) and we didn’t think too much of it.  A few days later the cough was not getting better so we took him to the family doctor who said he needed antibiotics.  We started the meds along with a puffer.  Three days later we noticed some hives developing and thought maybe it was something environmental.  The hives flared up really bad at one point so I quickly went tot he drug store to get antihistamine.  When the pharmacist saw him he actually opened the meds before I even paid for them and told me to give him a double dose.  He said if there isn’t an improvement within an hour to take him to get checked.  Alhamdulillah we noticed a difference and he seemed fine.  At bedtime, we gave him another dose of the antihistamine along with his antibioics.  Two hours after he fell asleep, I went to check on him and he had broken out again, but this time his lips were swelling.  We called 911 out of fear that his throat could potentially close up and restrict his breathing.  Once we arrived to the hospital we were seen quickly.  The doctor said he has an allergy to penicillin.  This really threw us off because he has had these antibiotics a few times before, but apparently, allergies can develop over time.  Anyways, they gave him epinephrine and alhamdulillah we have seen a huge improvement.  We have stopped the antibiotics as well.  The doctor at the hospital said his cough had turned into croup, which will inshaAllah go away soon.

MashaAllah Ibby was so brave and strong.  He was so tired n just wanted to sleep but he was so good and cooperative.  The paramedics, nurses and doctor were all so kind and even gave him a teddy bear.

Alhamdulillah for healthy kids.  May Allah always protect our babies, Ameen. <3
